Technical Talk by ABB on Power Generation, Switchgear & Protection

On 17th December, 2019, IEEE UIU Student Branch and IEEE UIU IAS Student Branch Chapter jointly supported the Power & Energy Training Academy (PETA) and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) on the collaboration of ABB and UIU. A ‘Technical Talk by ABB on Power Generation, Switchgear & Protection was held on that purpose on that day. ABB is a technology leader that is driving the digital transformation of industries.

It is a Swedish based company and is the product of many acquisitions and mergers, but is primarily known from the 1988 coming together of ASEA and BBC, formerly known as Brown Boveri, two of the proudest and best-known names in European electrical engineering history. ABB operates in more than 100 countries with about 147,000 employees. ABB has also helped to shape the now flourishing Power & Energy Sector of Bangladesh; as it is responsible for providing the alternators, switchgears and turbo chargers being used to operate power plants as well as about 90% of the generators currently generating the electricity needed to run thousands of households, offices, hospitals, factories, etc. all over the country. The Keynote speaker of this event was Mr. Stefan Jonsson, the Country Managing Director of ABB Ltd. Bangladesh. Other esteemed guests who attended the program were- Mr. M.M. Humayun Kabir, Assistant General, Manager-Service, ABB Ltd. Bangladesh and Mr. Mostafa Salman Nur, Senior Engineer, ABB Ltd. Bangladesh. Students and participants from any university were cordially invited to attend this open seminar.
